Jews Above the Law

This cartoon makes the allegation that Jews attack anyone they see as remotely critical of them, and employs a wealth of anti-Semitic stereotypes to make its point.

There is the Jewish Lawyer, stereotypically hook nosed, with hostile eyes, wearing a yarmulke and ready to take on even God in his immoral legalistic battles. It suggests that Jews are so hyper-sensitive about criticism that they take anyone, even God, to court for mentioning them.

The use of the phrase "in vain", playing on one of the Ten Commandments "Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain", further implies that Jews are above the law. The depiction of Jews as enemies of God recalls the centuries-old charge that they were responsible for the death of Christ; a charge repudiated by the Second Vatican Council in 1965.

This is further shown in the character of the judge, named Cohen. With the same large nose and hostile expression, he is clearly in cahoots with the lawyer, recalling the myth that the Jews control the legal system.

As in Islam and Christianity, Jews also prefer not to abuse the name of God; many will not even write the name of God. Moreover, Jews are not more prevalent in the judicial system than any other demographic; about seven of the 111 U.S. Supreme Court justices have been Jewish.
