Community Security Trust (CST) reports Anti-Semitic incidents fell in the UK by 9 % in 2011

 

The number of anti-Semitic incidents in the United Kingdom fell in 2011 for the second year running, according to a report published on Feb. 2, 2011 by the Community Security Trust (CST). Around 300,000 Jews live in the UK. To see the report: http://blog.thecst.org.uk/

CST, a charity which monitors anti-Semitism since 1994 and provides security for the Jewish community in Britain, recorded 586 anti-Semitic incidents across the country in 2011, most of which were reported directly to CST by victims and witnesses.

Arab Spring has proven to be problematic for the Jews

A report released on Jan. 22, 2012 and written by scholars at the Kantor Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry at Tel Aviv University, says: “[While] the popular uprisings in the Arab world do not represent a general change in attitude towards Israel, Zionism and the Jews it seems the anti-Semitic discourse and incitement have become more extreme and violent.”

Report finds anti-Semitism on American university campuses and Anti-Israel indoctrination

 

An initial summary of findings from the study of Religious Tolerance on Campus was published by the Institute for Jewish & Community Research (IJCR ) in December of 2011. The report is titled “ALONE ON THE QUAD: Understanding Jewish Student Isolation on Campus” and is based on a survey of over 1,400 students in the USA, including oversamples of minority religious groups. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive surveys of its kind.

Aryeh Weinberg of the Institute gave the major findings:

• Over 40% of students confirm Anti-Semitism on their campus

• Jewish students face Anti-Semitism alone

• Jewish students report Anti-Israelism creeping into the classroom

• Anti-Semitism is being normalized and underreported

• A significant minority of Jewish studnets say Anti-Israel protest targets Jews

• The majority of non-Jewish students do not hold opinions on Israel.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe publishes 2010 report on hate crimes

A report on hate crimes in 2010, “Hate Crimes in the OSCE Region: Incidents and Responses,” was released on Nov. 16, 2011 by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

on hate crime statistics from 33 countries. It concluded that the global economic crisis is contributing to hate crimes by angry and frustrated people. Open for full report.

Report on anti-Semitism in Australia for the year 2010/2011

JEWS in Australia faced 517 incidents of harassment or intimidation in the year to September 30, 2011, a 31 per cent rise from the year before, according to the Jewish community's annual report on anti-Semitism. Jones’s full report.

"Put bluntly, in Australia this year, 10 times a week, every week, Jewish Australians were attacked or threatened," report author Jeremy Jones said.

Report shows Anti-Semitism is a serious problem in Germany

Anti-Semitism remains a serious problem in Germany, according to a 188-page report titled “Anti-Semitism in Germany: Forms, conditions, prevention,” issued by a national commission of experts and delivered the first week of November 2011 to the German Bundestag. Bigoted Jewish stereotypes are still entrenched in German society and discrimination is an everyday experience for many German Jews.

The report was prepared by a nine-member panel established in mid-2009 by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and charged with reporting regularly on anti-Semitism and efforts to combat it in Germany. A Bundestag resolution in November 2008 had mandated the committee.

ADL Poll on Anti-Semitic Attitudes in America

A nationwide survey of attitudes towards Jews in the USA was released on Nov. 3, 2011 by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). They reported a small rise in deeply anti-Semitic attitudes – from 11% to 15% - in the years 2009 to 2011. This finding confirms the existence of a small segment of America that continues to hold "anti-Semitic beliefs.

In fact, the recent ADL survey shows a relatively stable level of extreme anti-Semitism in the American polity for the last decade. While 15 percent of Americans hold deeply anti-Semitic views today, this has been at this level of hatred since 2002 when an ADL poll found 17 percent of Americans harbored anti-Jewish attitudes.

A new research study released by the Italian Parliament on October 17, 2011 found 44% of Italians are prejudiced or hostile in varying degrees towards Jews.

The report, titled "Final Document: Investigation on Anti-Semitism," was commissioned by the Committee for the Inquiry into Anti-Semitism of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Italian Parliament. The 50-page document is the culmination of more than two years of research and parliamentary hearings.

Two reports document hatred in Canada

 

The League for Human Rights of B’nai Brith Canada releases a report each year titled “Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents” on the patterns of prejudice in Canada.

It most recent report for the year 2010 recorded 1,306 incidents, representing a 3.3% increase over the 2009 data, and a more than four-fold increase over the past ten years.

Two Reports show Argentina with an anti-Semitism problem

Two reports revealing the extent of anti-Semitism in Argentina were released by DAIA (Delegación de Asociaciones Israelitas Argentinas), the Jewish umbrella organization, on Oct. 5, 2011.

An opinion poll conducted by the Gino Germani Institute of the University of Buenos Aires found that 45 percent of those polled “would never marry a Jew” and that 30 percent "would not live in a neighborhood with a large presence of Jews." The poll also showed that four out of 10 respondents have a negative opinion of “Jews being involved in politics” and five out of 10 think that Jews talk too much about the Holocaust. Some 54 percent of those polled agreed that Jews “are the first ones to turn their backs on the needy.”

The 2011 National Jewish University Student Survey in the UK

 

A report was released on 4 Oct. 2011 with findings from the 2011 National Jewish Student Survey, conducted by Institute for Jewish Policy Research (JPR) and providing a comprehensive picture of Jewish student views and concerns in the UK.

The report was written by David Graham, Jonathan Boyd and titled: Home and away: Jewish journeys towards independence. The survey was commissioned by the Union of Jewish Students in partnership with Pears Foundation.

The Anti-Defamation League 2010 Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents

The Anti-Defamation League released its annual Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents on October 4, 2011.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) founded in 1913 is an international non-governmental organization based in the United States. Describing itself as "the nation's premier civil rights/human relations agency", the ADL states that it fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all while it advocates for Israel with policymakers, the media and the public and defends the security of Israel and Jews worldwide.

Bishop Williamson a No Show at his Appeal

Holocaust denying Bishop Richard Williamson did not attend on Monday his appeal session at the German district court of Regensburg on Monday. His lawyers made several excuses, but prosecutors showed a consistent pattern and demanded his penalty be raised.

Complaint against Sociologist for linking Muslim anti-Semitism to Islam

In Belgium, Professor Mark Elchardus discussed his report on youth inclusion, which found that half of local Muslim youths hold anti-Semitic views, and noted a direct link to their Islamic theology. Local Islamic group Vigilance Musulman has registered a formal complaint with the country’s Center for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism.

 

Swedish Queen to Examine Nazi Father's Past

The Swedish Queen Silvia will study the role of her late father during the Nazi era, including claims he took over properties stolen from Jewish owners, her spokesman said. The Queen's German father died in 1990.

Hungarian on Trial for WWII Serbia Murders

He is considered one of the last Nazi war criminals still alive. The 97 year old Sandor Kepiro appeared in court on Thursday in Budapest in what might be the last trial of a Nazi war criminal. He is accused of war crimes during a raid in 1942. At least 1,200 civilians, many of them Jews, were killed.

France Names Holocaust Victims

On Sunday night, French Interior Minister Claude Gueant, prominent thinker Simone Veil, and other political and religious leaders started reading aloud 24 names out of 76,000 Jews who were deported from France during the Nazi era, at the Shoah Memorial in Paris.
