Yusuf al-Qaradawi is a leading Egyptian Muslim scholar, preacher and the host of the popular al-Jazeera TV show Shariah and Life. He is known for making anti-Semitic comments. Some of al-Qaradawi's comments have included incitement to kill the Jews.
During a segment of Shariah and Life, al-Qaradawi stated that the Jews deserved the Holocaust: "Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the [Jews] people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by Hitler. By means of all the things he did to them – even though they exaggerated this issue – he managed to put them in their place. This was divine punishment for them. Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers."
Al-Qaradawi has glorified and encouraged the killing of the Jews on multiple occasions. He has said that "We wait for the revenge of Allah to descend upon them – and, Allah willing, it will be by our own hands."
According to the Wall Street Journal, as the leader of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, al-Qaradawi has seen the Protocols of Elders of Zion used in the group's research and debates. The fabricated text has been a source of misinformation utilized by anti-Semites all over the world.
Al-Qaradawi is a well known and respected figure in the Muslim world. Islamic studies expert John L. Esposito has described al-Qaradawi as engaging in a “reformist interpretation of Islam and its relationship to democracy, pluralism and human rights.” The fact that someone who is seen in such a light in the Muslim world openly makes statements calling for the destruction of the Jews, underscores the level of anti-Semitism that exists in the Muslim world today.
“Oh Allah, take your enemies, the enemies of Islam. Oh Allah, take the Jews, the treacherous aggressors. Oh Allah, take this profligate, cunning, arrogant band of people…Oh Allah, take this oppressive, Jewish, Zionist band of people. Oh Allah, do not spare a single one of them. Oh Allah, count their numbers, and kill them, down to the very last one."
